NEW! - CALL FOR APPLICATIONS 2012/13
In Fall 2011, CEU launched the Institute for Advanced Study (CEU-IAS), a program that brings outstanding scholars to Budapest from around the world for up to one year. Following in the tradition of the Collegium Budapest and similar international academic research enterprises, CEU-IAS invites senior and junior fellows to pursue their diverse disciplinary interests in an environment conducive to focused scholarship.
Chosen through a rigorous selection process, IAS fellows are able to work with CEU faculty and scholars in all departments and connect with the Hungarian academic community through local universities. In its first academic year, 2011-12, the Institute will host about 15 international fellows.
CEU-IAS has complete academic autonomy. Its Academic Advisory Board is composed of well-known international scholars and CEU –IAS fellows are chosen by a committee independent of CEU on the basis of evaluations of external experts. Academic director Eva Fodor, a professor in CEU’s Department of Gender Studies, manages the Institute’s academic program.
CEU-IAS provides a stimulating environment in which the fellows can devote themselves to their research and share their work with peers through weekly seminars and other community programs. Fellows have access to all CEU facilities, including seminar and conference space, computer services, and library resources. They also benefit from CEU’s vibrant international character, its strong ties in Hungary, and its location in culturally rich Budapest. CEU-IAS facilitates the fellows’ engagement with the Hungarian scholarly community by encouraging collaborative projects, organizing joint public lectures, establishing student mentorship programs, and related activities.
The Institute’s mission includes stimulating interdisciplinary scholarship and promoting academic research and cooperation worldwide.

CEU-IAS fellows reside at the Wallenberg Guesthouse in the Buda Hills. With 26 fully equipped apartments ranging in size from 45 to 90 square meters, it provides fellows with superb live-work space. It also accommodates other guests based on availability.
